Tsunali: Teens Talking to Teens is a recently formed group of young women in Lawrence, Kansas who recognize the importance of peers talking to each other in an honest manner about difficult, and sometimes awkward, topics - such as sexual assault, healthy relationships, and more.

Tsunali (joo-nahl-ee) is the word for ‘friends’ in the Cherokee Nation, and is a name that was decided upon by a group of 5 young women, ages 14-17, who spent a week volunteering at GaDuGi SafeCenter. These young ladies were inspired by the agency’s namesake and its origins. GaDuGi (gah-doo-ghee, hard g’s) translates from Cherokee to English as “working together as a community toward a common goal”. In that spirit, they found the word Tsunali and felt that it was a perfect name for a peer education group for area teens.
